Regulatory Advisor - Independent Interconnection Owner

Our client is looking for a regulatory advisor to lead on market, regulatory and policy issues in the best interests of the business. Reporting into the strategy and regulation manager, the role will be responsible for providing timely, accurate and in-depth analysis of energy policy and regulatory issues impacting on interconnectors, Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and the wider market to support management decisions, external relationships and ongoing reporting obligations towards GB and European regulatory authorities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintaining excellent understanding of applicable EU, French and GB legislation: (TCA, including associated legislation, the European Clean Energy Package and any domestic legislative requirements), ensuring the business is able to comply with existing and new regulatory requirements in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Coordinate and advocate for the business' views to the regional and European TSO community at relevant working groups and industry fora.
  • Develop business positions and liaise with policy makers and other stakeholders as necessary, regarding future GB and European market legislation.
  • Assist in the ongoing development of the business Access Rules and Charging Methodology Statement, manage any public consultation processes and obtain regulatory approvals, as and when required.
  • Monitor market developments, conduct economic analysis to support management decisions on commercialisation, strategy and investments, and to input to internal reports.
  • Support the identification and assessment of business development opportunities through market research and analysis of the regulatory framework in Great Britain and France.
  • Build and maintain relationships with other GB and European interconnectors, TSOs, national regulators in Great Britain and France over regulatory matters as appropriate.

Requirements & Education:

  • Fluent in English and French is essential.
  • Able to frequently travel to central London office.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience gained in an interconnector, transmission system operator, regulatory authority, energy consulting firm or electricity company (generator, supplier or trader). 
  • Good knowledge of EU, French and/or GB regulatory and power market frameworks.
