Process Safety Lead – Major Green Hydrogen Project
Mint Selection is partnered with a leading Independent Power Producer who build, own and operate one of Europe’s largest grid flexibility and energy storage portfolios.
They are developing a cutting-edge Green Hydrogen project which will be among the largest in the UK, with Phase 1 due to enter construction imminently.
We are therefore looking to appoint a Process Safety Lead, reporting into the Engineering Director and involved from inception to operation on this major project as well as wider hydrogen electrolysis and hydrogen thermal combustion projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Undertake an Owners Engineer role from hydrogen technology and safety point of view, in particular:
Review and participation in safety studies for hydrogen project designs
Review of contractor’s safety case, analysis, designs and calculations
Review of electrolyser technology offers
Lead environmental aspects including development of EIA
Lead relationships with classification societies e.g. DNV, LRQA
Work with the HSEQ team, planning team and external advisors to prepare COMAH applications, including risk ranking of Makor Accident Hazards and additional respective barriers.
Provide technical leadership on hydrogen safety and process safety issues to the project engineering team.
Design, specification and requisitioning of hydrogen electrolysis plant, with experience of the system full lifecycle from pre-FEED, FEED and detailed design stages.
Support the Engineering Director and project development team in developing designs and specifications, and evaluating contractors for future hydrogen electrolysis and hydrogen peaking plants.
Desired Skills & Experience:
MEng in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent degree; Chartered Engineer status preferred
7+ years working within a process safety environment, with experience in a hydrogen or Onshore Oil & Gas environment beneficial (other sectors e.g. Chemicals also relevant)
Knowledge of process safety across plant design and construction
Experience in participation of safety studies relevant to hydrogen plants including HAZID, ENVID, HAZOP, LOPA and functional safety studies to IEC61511 and IEC61508
Understanding of safety and legislative requirements including:
Industry standards such as NFPA 2, EIGA, API
Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres (DSEAR) regulations and Hazardous Area Classification
Experience of Pollution Prevention & Control (PPC) Regulations or permits with SEPA
