Project Engineering Manager – Leading Flexible Generation IPP

Reporting to the Engineering Director and assigned Project Manager, this role will be responsible for managing the delivery of engineering across a portfolio of battery energy storage and gas peaking projects from the financial investment decision through detailed design, construction and operations. The Project Engineering Manager will be responsible for the technical management and day-to-day project execution management of a team of project engineers.

To deliver this role, the Project Engineering Manager shall have the following responsibilities:

 

Design co-ordination:

    1. Design co-ordinator across multiple projects – Ensure designers submit designs on time

    2. Interface management – Ensure design interfaces are captured and managed

    3. Drafting of employer’s requirements / specifications for projects

    4. Ensure design deliverables from designers allow the project to be delivered on budget

    5. Identify, evaluate and implement value engineering and cost reduction opportunities during design and construction

    6. Co-ordinate design decisions across projects to ensure consistency and transfer of knowledge between projects

 

Provide input to the Pre-FID design and budgeting process, managed by the Engineering Director

 

Project Engineering:

    1. Act as senior project engineer on complex projects

    1. Co-ordinate the design inputs from all contractors responsible for design on site

    2. Proactively identify design issues early and resolve these issues or escalate to the head of engineering

    3. Lead design co-ordination meetings between all contractors responsible for design

    4. Manage design register and provide regular updates to the project team

    5. Manage contractors’ due dates and ensuring contractors deliver their required design deliverables correctly and on time

    6. Manage all drawings and calculations required for the project

    7. Ensure correct and latest revisions of all drawings and calculations are used by all contractors in the design, development and construction of the project.

    8. Communicating Design Information between Contractors and to Site Team

    9. Regular site visits to review design developments with site based team and to assist project management team in any design related issues that arise during construction

    1. Manage the Technical Query process and contribute to the resolution of TQ process with project engineers

 

Management:

    1. Manage the technical output of a team of project engineers

    2. Manage project engineers delivering on simpler projects

 

Useful Additional Skills

 

In addition to the main duties, the Project Engineering Manager shall have some or all of the following skills:

  • Knowledge of comparable plant construction

  • Understanding of mechanical plant/piping systems OR HV electrical infrastructure design and construction

  • AutoCAD 2D / 3D CAD Design

  • Understanding of CDM Regulations and Principal Designer requirements

  • Building relationships with both office based and site based teams

 

Experience

Typically 10 years plus within a renewables or energy generation environment (gas peaking plants, energy storage, wind or comparable) including supporting the construction phase.  At this level, site experience is expected.

 

Development Opportunities

Working with a dynamic team constructing cutting edge energy plants will provide the successful candidate with extremely relevant real-world project experience. Longer term the successful candidate can expect to work across a portfolio of battery energy storage and gas peaking projects from the financial investment decision through detailed design, construction and operations.  There is also the potential for assignment to hydrogen generation and pumped storage hydro projects.

 

Location

Central London, with regular travel to sites across the UK

 

Qualifications

MEng in a relevant engineering discipline

CEng or equivalent
