Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager, the Project Engineer (Mechanical) shall be part of a team responsible for delivering the project engineering for a fleet of utility scale hydrogen ready gas peaking and energy storage projects, initially focused on the 570MW hybrid battery and thermal project to the east of London. This shall include:

1. Design Co-ordination of mechanical engineering packages:

  1. Co-ordinate the design inputs from all contractors responsible for design on site
  2. Proactively identify design issues early and resolve these issues or escalate to the head of engineering
  3. Lead design co-ordination meetings between all contractors focused on responsible engineering packages
  4. Manage design register and provide regular updates to the project team
  5. Manage contractors’ due dates and ensuring contractors deliver their required design deliverables correctly and on time

2. Document Control for mechanical engineering packages:

  1. Manage all mechanical and process drawings and calculations required for the project
  2. Ensure correct and latest revisions of all drawings and calculations are used by all contractors in the design, development and construction of the project.

3.Communicating Design Information between Contractors and to Site Team for one or more projects:

  1. Based on site for a minimum of 1 day a week during the construction phase on the project
  2. Regular site visits to review design developments with site-based team and to assist project management team in any design related issues that arise during construction

4. Design Development of future projects

  1. Support the Engineering Director in developing designs and specifications and evaluating contractors for future battery and hydrogen ready gas peaking plants

5.Undertaking an Owners Engineer role from a mechanical engineering point of view, providing review of mechanical design work undertaken by contractors for both their own and other projects constructed by the team

6.Providing high level specification of mechanical design associated with a hydrogen ready gas peaking project

7. Representing the company in meetings with designers, suppliers and on site teams.

 

Additional Skills

In addition to the main duties, it would be beneficial if the Mechanical Project Engineer had some or all of the following skills:

·Knowledge of gas engine project design

·Knowledge of electrical safety rules up to 400kV

·Knowledge of gas peaking plant construction

·Working knowledge of process engineering (ability to understand and interrogate PFDs and P&IDs)

·AutoCAD 2D

·3D CAD Design

 

Qualifications

•MEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

 

Experience

3-10 years within an EPC or energy generation environment (gas peaking plants, energy storage, wind, solar) supporting construction projects
