Senior Project Manager (Pre-Construction)

Utility-Scale Solar PV & BESS

London, UK (Hybrid)

Our client is entering an exciting new phase of growth, transitioning from a successful renewable energy developer into a long-term owner and operator of utility-scale assets. With a multi-gigawatt pipeline of Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects progressing across the UK, they are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager (Pre-Construction) to help drive projects through commercialisation and into construction.

This is a high-impact client-side position responsible for leading projects from Ready-to-Build (RTB) through Final Investment Decision (FID) and Notice to Proceed (NTP). Working across technical, commercial and financial workstreams, you'll play a critical role in ensuring projects are fully de-risked, financed and prepared for successful delivery.

The Company

Our client has established one of the UK's most significant renewable energy development portfolios and is now focused on delivering and operating these assets for the long term. They offer a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment where experienced professionals are empowered to influence decision-making, improve delivery processes and contribute directly to the UK's energy transition.

As the business continues to expand, this newly created role offers the opportunity to shape best practice across project governance, commercialisation and pre-construction delivery while working alongside highly experienced development, engineering and investment teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects through the pre-construction phase, from Ready-to-Build to Final Investment Decision and Notice to Proceed.
  • Develop and manage integrated project programmes, ensuring key commercial, technical and financial milestones are achieved.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across development, engineering, procurement, grid, commercial and construction functions.
  • Manage project governance, reporting and project controls throughout the commercialisation phase.
  • Support procurement strategies, contractor selection and commercial negotiations with EPC contractors and key suppliers.
  • Work closely with investors, lenders, technical advisers, insurers and external consultants to support project financing activities.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate project risks while maintaining programme certainty.
  • Drive continuous improvement across project delivery processes and governance frameworks.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience delivering major energy or infrastructure projects through pre-construction and commercialisation.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery from Ready-to-Build through Final Investment Decision.
  • Experience managing complex stakeholder environments and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Knowledge of EPC and/or multi-contract delivery strategies.
  • Experience supporting project-financed developments or investment approval processes is highly advantageous.
  • Background within renewable energy, Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage (BESS), transmission or wider energy infrastructure.
  • Excellent programme management, commercial management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Construction, Project Management or a related discipline is desirable.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with performance-related bonus.
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
  • Comprehensive pension and benefits package.
  • Opportunity to work on some of the UK's largest utility-scale renewable energy developments.
  • High levels of autonomy within a growing and ambitious organisation.
  • Genuine opportunity to influence project delivery strategy and organisational growth.
  • Long-term career progression within a business committed to expanding its renewable energy portfolio.
