Head of Health, Safety & Environment -Renewable Energy Investment Platform

Take the chance to join an investment platform focused on the acquisition and operation of renewable energy assets as their new Head of Health, Safety and Environment.

As the Head of HSE, you will play a key role in our client’s growth strategy by developing and leading the strategic and operational agenda for HSE across the business, from operating assets to “ready to build” projects.

The successful candidate will provide technical knowledge, advise and expertise on all aspects of HSE, and will take on the responsibility to build strong relationships across the organisation, with key stakeholders and contractors as well as to ensure compliance across the business.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a HSE strategy, operating model and plan, and all relevant HSE requirements, standards, and legislation

  • Work directly with the Executive Committee to establish a culture of prevention, protection, and compliance.

  • Develop, enhance, maintain, and implement HSE policies and processes, so that all assets/sites and projects are in compliance.

  • Maintain asset/site emergency action plan and provide training as needed

  • Coach the Asset Management Team on HSE matters ensuring that their technical and behavioural competencies are aligned in order to deliver optimised performance and a safe working environment

  • Monitor and guide HSE performance of EPC contractor, and if appropriate attend construction progress meetings to provide input and feedback on HSE performance of the contractors.

  • Report, investigate and implement mitigations relating to Project HSE incidents and near misses including issuing a “lessons to be learnt” summary to all contractors and project team members within a timescale appropriate to the severity of the incident or injury to prevent repeating the incident

  • Provide oversight and management information of HSE matters to various stakeholder groups including HSE Committee, our client’s Board and Project Steering Committees, challenging performance as appropriate.

  • Coordinate, analysis of information as appropriate, HSE internal and regulatory reporting, including data collection and reporting

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Chartered membership of one or more of the Professional Organisations in Occupational Safety, Health, Environment or Quality and undertaking a scheme of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) e.g. chartered member of Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (CMIOSH)

  • Minimum of 10 years HSE experience, with at least 5 years’ experience of working on medium to large size infrastructure construction projects and preferably, experience of renewable energy projects

  • Deep understanding and demonstrable experience of compliance with Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM 2015) 

  • NEBOSH Diploma (Occupational Health & Safety and Environment) minimum or equivalent

  • Knowledge and experience of health & safety and environmental management systems and relevant areas of civil and criminal law gained in multi asset/site and construction environments

  • Able to lead and effectively implementation HSE systems and procedures on multi asset/site and construction environments including inspection and audit

  • Fluent and confident report writer, with experience of undertaking technical review of others work
