Construction Manager – Thermal - Power Generation Projects


Construction Manager sought by project developer and EPC provider for portfolio of power generation assets within the UK. Projects include latest generation reciprocating engines, battery energy storage and traditional renewable power projects. The initial two projects have a combined £400m CAPEX and include Europe’s largest Battery to date.


Reporting to the Head of Construction Management, you will oversee the day-day site activities coordinating multiple subcontractors and equipment suppliers. Projects will be delivered consecutively and are spread around England including near London and the South-East, Midlands, North-West and North-East. Ideally you will be based within touching distance of London and be happy to travel to site as required (other locations can be considered). Some projects will allow a home base and daily travel whilst others will mean staying away during the week.


The successful Construction Manager will take full responsibility and accountability for the safe and timely delivery of site construction, installation, test and commissioning elements and associated activities across assigned project sites.


Ideally you will have a background overseeing the delivery of Energy or Power projects and preferably, a civils background. Experience in delivery of thermal plant preferred (OCGT, CCGT, CHP, energy from waste, Anaerobic Digestion +) with utility scale renewables and or energy storage also of interest.


Construction Manager main responsibilities;

  • Driving site activity and co-ordinating multi-disciplinary construction work
  • Liaising with senior management and stakeholders on progress
  • Managing sub-contractors effectively
  • Chairing site meetings
  • Overcoming design issues/ effective-problem solving
  • Providing technical input throughout the process


Construction Manager Key Requirements;

  • Strong leader experienced in Construction management / Site management for related Energy or Power projects
  • Previous experience overseeing EPC, ICP and DNO counterparties
  • Commercially Astute
  • Previous Management experience of a team of sub-contractors and third parties
  • Experience on sites with values north of £10m (£50m + optimal)
  • IOSH Managing Safety / First Aid
  • Lock Out Tag Out Management (Electrical &/or GAS)
  • Good working knowledge of construction management processes and techniques
  • Previous roles; Construction Director, Construction Manager, Senior Construction Manager, Site Manager
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to motivate those around you
