Communications Director UK – International Power & Energy

Communications Director sought by fast growth International Power/Energy Project Developer, Owner and Operator. You will be a proven leader and have a strong track record of personal accomplishment at a senior level within the energy sector, ideally with experience of working in adjacent energy segments such as On-site generation, Grid balancing, Renewable Generation or Oil & Gas among others.

Our client is looking for an individual to lead stakeholder management and communications by engaging with key members of regulatory bodies to garner support for projects at a national level, while managing the story telling strategy specific to individual projects as well as community investment.

With an outstanding understanding of the political context around the industry, the successful candidate will act as the spokesperson of our client and will support the CEO while working collaboratively with the wider executive team.

Key deliverables:

• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key senior stakeholders across HM Government, project & supply chain partners, community leaders, media, and potential customers
• Ensuring the identification, development and deployment of policy, advocacy and communications solutions to current and emerging business issues, re-evaluating and agreeing advocacy priorities.
• Communicate policy positions to stakeholders effectively, through targeted and timely messages and campaigns. Develop communications across all media and other channels. Manage reactive or urgent communications for the industry as required.
• Work with colleagues to establish our annual priorities based on external environment and policy priorities.
• Act as spokesperson.
• Supporting the CEO and the wider executive team, working collaboratively/adopting a collegiate approach.
• Understand issues facing the sector, keep up to date with policy and regulatory teams, and horizon scan for issues or themes either in the energy sector or wider environment.
• Support with developing member communications on all our channels and internal communications which reflect our mission and culture.

Requirements:

Essential knowledge and skills

• A strong background in communications, advocacy, public affairs, or campaigns.
• Experience of working with multiple senior stakeholders, and particularly with the UK Government and the media.
• Excellent written/oral communication skills and established networking expertise.
• Keen interest in current affairs, knowledge of policy making.
• Ability to act as a representative or spokesperson to senior stakeholders.
• Ability to build and maintain a strong internal network across all appropriate business areas and corporate functions, with a view to understanding positions and priorities, to influence positive outcomes.
