Introducing our 2026 Market Report

Posted on 25 September 2026

The first half of 2026 has brought a marked acceleration in activity across the UK and European energy transition. Capital continues to flow, projects are moving forward and businesses are investing in the capabilities needed for their next stage of growth. Yet the question facing many organisations has changed. It is no longer only about building a pipeline. It is about turning that pipeline into operating assets and lasting value.

That shift is notable in Mint Selection’s 2026 Market Report and Outlook, which brings together our view of the industry, the talent market and the decisions likely to shape the months ahead.

From Development to Delivery

As our Founder and Managing Director, Charlie Giblin, observes in the report, the race is now about raising capital, monetising assets, building delivery capability and turning projects into operating businesses. Those demands are changing the people and leadership businesses need.

Across the UK and Europe, grid infrastructure, battery storage and flexibility continue to attract investment. At the same time, more assets are progressing through construction and into operation. This is increasing demand for expertise in project delivery, electrical engineering, asset management, trading and optimisation. Data centres are also adding to the pressure on power infrastructure and creating new opportunities across the wider market.

The pace is not uniform. Investment decisions, grid connections, policy outcomes and project maturity will determine where activity accelerates next. Businesses with credible projects, clear funding and a route to delivery are better placed to attract the people they need.

Talent is Becoming a Test of Execution

The report draws on the perspectives of our executive search, UK and European permanent hiring, and contract teams. Across each area, a consistent theme emerges: proven experience is in short supply where delivery requirements are most demanding.

At leadership level, investors and boards increasingly need executives who have managed business transitions, scaled operating platforms and navigated commercial and organisational complexity. In permanent hiring, competition is particularly strong for grid and electrical specialists, project controls and delivery professionals, and talent across trading, data and optimisation. Contract specialists remain critical for mobilising projects quickly, especially across substations and high voltage infrastructure.

Candidates are also assessing opportunities more carefully. Alongside the role and reward, they want confidence in project viability, leadership, funding and the organisation’s long term direction. A compelling proposition has to be backed by a credible plan.

What the Report Covers

Our 2026 Market Report and Outlook examines the forces shaping the sector and what they mean for talent decisions, including:

  • The investment, policy and technology developments influencing the UK and European markets

  • The leadership capabilities businesses need as they scale and move towards operating models

  • Hiring demand and talent constraints across UK and European permanent markets

  • The role of contract and interim professionals in maintaining project momentum

  • The decisions and market signals we are watching through the second half of 2026 and beyond

For employers, the practical message is to plan capability alongside capital deployment and project milestones. Starting critical searches earlier, understanding where scarce talent sits and choosing the right mix of permanent, contract and leadership support can make a material difference to delivery.
